Description of Doll for Sale

Here is a great example of an antique Eden Bebe doll.  She is 22 inches tall and was made in France by Fleischmann & Bloedel between 1890 and 1899.  Fleischmann & Bloedel registered the Eden Bebe name in 1890 and transfered the name and many of their molds to SFBJ when it was founded in 1899.  Based on the style of the body and the details of the head I believe this must be pre SFBJ production giving the end date of around 1899 on its manufacture.

Fleischmann & Bloedel had production facilities in France and Germany but most of their dolls were made and sold in France.  While not as well known as other French makers like Jumeau they maintained the high quality shown in French dolls.  When SFBJ was formed by the French government in 1899 they contributed the largest portion of the assets used to form the new company.

The doll has been redressed in a very well made French styled gown that fits her well.  The dress is made from vintage and antique materials with a mix of hand and machine sewing.  The material is sound with no deterioration.  She has an original silk hat that is badly deteriorated and an antique mohair wig over a new cork pate.  She has antique leather shoes with a CM mark on the soles and a France stamp inside.  The body is all original with only a little sign of repairs on one hand. The body has the large balls with a shapely bottom seen on French dolls but is not the Jumeau body seen on these dolls after the merger with SFBJ.

The head is another issue. The antique head has been broken and restored.  A piece was broken from the forehead and there is a crack on the side of the face.  The repair represents one of the finest invisible bisque repairs I have ever seen.  Even knowing where the damage is I cannot see any damage from the front.  See the back-lit and regular photos in the slide show.

Looking at her with an invisible repair, well tailored replacement dress and antique shoes she looks like a French doll that should sell for thousands.  Because of the repair I am pricing her at a much more reasonable price.  If you have always urned for a doll with that French look here is your chance.

The head is marked as shown:  The antique leather shoes have a CM mark on the soles and a France stamp inside.

Condition of Doll for Sale

The bisque head has been broken and invisibly repaired (see discription above and pictures in slide show).

damage2 damage1

The body has its original finish with no chips, cracks, or crazing.  There seems to be some repair and repaint on the left hand.  Parts of the hand have been repainted and there is signs of filler between the little finger and the ring finger.  I can't tell if fingers have been repaired or replaced but some work has been done there (see pictures) You can click the pictures to see close-ups of the condition. There is some wear and paint chipping on the body and neck joints.

The clothes are in good condition with no foxing, stains, rips or repairs.  The finish on the shoes has cracked some.  The antique mohair wig is matted and needs to be styled.  When styled properly it is full enough to present well.  The antique hat has deteriorated a lot.  The silk is fragile and is shattering.  The wire frame is exposed on one side.  The ruffles in the head opening are coming apart.  There are also stains on the top of the hat (see pictures in slide show).

This is an antique doll that will have some wear and imperfections expected in an antique or vintage doll.  I make every effort to describe all significant flaws in my descriptions and show them in the pictures.  Please read the description fully and examine all the pictures to be sure you understand the condition of the doll.  The pictures can be enlarged to show the doll in great detail.  If you have any questions or would like any additional information on this doll please email me and I will be glad to answer your question.  California residents are responsible for California Sales tax in addition to the purchase price shown.
