Antique Steiner LeParisian Walker

Description

This is a beautiful example of a antique Steiner LeParisian walker doll. She is another fine example of French doll manufacturers work.  She is marked as size 13 and is 22 inches tall.  She has an original walker body with a working mechanism that turns the head as you move the legs.  She has her original French mohair wig.

Condition

The head is perfect with no chips, cracks, repairs or wig pulls. She has pierced ears with no chips to the ear holes.  She has vintage replacement earrings. 

The body and hands have not been repainted and retain their original finish,  The varnish on the body has yellowed some which is expected in dolls of this age.  There is an old repair to the left hip and leg.  One part of the repair is to the bottom edge of the hip opening where the walker mechanism enters the body cavity.  The other part of the repair is to the leg where the walker mechanism is joined to the upper leg.  The walker mechanism is a little loose where it joins to the leg but is stable and the walking motion of the leg is not impaired.  This repair was done a long time ago as the varnish applied over the paint repairs has yellowed as much as the original factory varnish (see pictures below)  You can click the pictures to see close-ups of the damage. 

Both hands appear to have been attacked by woodworm or some type of furniture beetle.  There are holes eaten into the composition. I have checked and whatever did this is long gone.  No other part of the body has been affected. See enlargements in the slide show above for detailed pictures of the damage. Surprisingly the hands retain their original finish and do not have any broken fingers. 

She has antique French shoes and antique lace socks.  The socks are antique but are not factory original.  One shoe is missing its sole and the other sole has wear.  (see pictures in the slide show above)

The clothing is antique and could be factory original.  The outfit  consists of a bonnet, dress, full slip and pantalones. The bonnet and dress are silk with tassels, ribbon, net and lace overlays.  The fabric is sound with no signs of melting which is often seen in silk of this age.  The ends of the ribbons have frayed with age.  Where the ribbon is tied in bows or sewn to the dress it is sound.  The lace and netting are sound.  The dress has an overall yellowing from age.  In addition there is some areas of staining on the front and back of the dress.  It appears this staining comes from contact with wrapping paper or cardboard when the doll was stored.  The ruffles on the dress have also been flattened from storage. The shipping charge includes packaging, insurance and tracking information.  Dolls over $500 will require a  signature when they are delivered. I sell and ship only to the continental US (no Alaska and Hawaii).  All shipments are by UPS and must be to an address (no P.O. boxes).

If you purchase a doll from me and you feel the doll is not as represented on this page please contact me by phone, email or postmarked letter within three days of receiving the doll and I will gladly refund your full payment excluding shipping fees. To get a refund the doll must be returned in her original condition and wearing all garments and accessories. If you do not contact me within three days of receiving the doll, it is understood by both the buyer and the seller that the doll is acceptable and a return privilege is no longer available.
